“A’ishah radhiyallahu ‘anha was a very intelligent woman. When the Prophet sallallahu alayhu wasallam left this world she was only 18 years old yet she had acquired a huge amount of knowledge from the Prophet sallallahu alayhu wasallam.

“When a husband looks after his wife well, the wife will believe that her husband truly loves her. Then if for some reason the husband says no to one of the wife’s requests then the wife will think that there must be a good reason for this or else my husband would have definitely acceded to my request.”

“It is the duty of the husband that he constantly assesses what his wife requires so that his wife does not have to constantly remind him of her needs.

The husband should aim to be so vigilant in this matter that he comes to know his wife so well that he is aware of what she requires without her even having to tell him.”

“During the time of burial it is common practice to place a sheet over the Kafan (the burial shroud). As the Kafan is tied closely to the body the sheet helps conceal the contours of the body. However, sometimes the shape of the body can still be seen, even with a sheet placed on top.

When Fatima radiallahu anha became acutely ill and feared that she may soon pass away she asked Asma bint Umais radiallahu anha to suggest a method of burial through which modesty would be conserved the most.

“The Sahabah radiallahu anhum were the best of people and it is the unanimous opinion of the ulamaa that the wife of a Prophet can never become involved in immorality.

Despite this, Allah ta’ala ordered the Companions that they should not speak to the wives of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam unless there was a veil in between.

Thus we learn that hijaab is necessary. And if hijaab was necessary in the golden era of the Companions, then it is even more necessary in our time.”

“Fatima radilallahu anha used to perform Salaah the entire night. Yet when the time of dawn would come she would complain in anguish and say that:

O Night! What is wrong with you? Why have you become so short?

“What we see generally portrayed about how women are mistreated in Islam is not a reflection of Islam but a reflection of cultural practice and custom. Oppressing, hitting, shouting and demanding are all non-Islamic traits.

Islam teaches that women are to be treated with nothing other than honour, respect, love and affection.”

“Allah ta’ala has granted greater leniency to women than men. For example, it is necessary for men to perform Salaah with Jama’ah in the Masjid. As for a woman, if she performs Salaah within the comfort and safety of her home she gains the same reward.

When a woman is in the state of menstruation, Allah ta’ala grants her the privilege of not offering Salaah. Yet, the mercy of Allah is such that instead of depriving her of reward Allah ta’ala continues to record for her the rewards of worship.”

“Allah ta’ala has placed the responsibility of looking after the complete welfare of women from birth until death upon the shoulders of men. Thus before marriage the father is responsible for her welfare and after marriage this responsibility falls on her husband and any sons she may have.

Alhamdulillah, what great honour Allah ta’ala has granted a woman for she is respected in all stages and in all aspects of her life by all those around her.”

The following is some food for thought, transcribed and translated to the nearest meaning from our respected Shaykh hafizahullah:

“People object to Islam by saying it inherently despises women. They quote teachings such as ‘Safeguard yourself from women’, however have misconstrued the meaning entirely. This teaching is directed for the non-mahram* and is meant to safeguard the woman from the advances of others.
