“It is only after sacrifice that you experience ease. Night shift workers make the sacrifice of working at night for they know that as a result they will be given a wage that will enable them to acquire comfort.
Likewise we also need to sacrifice the desires of our nafs in this world for the ease of the hereafter.”
The Way to Create Love for Allah ta’ala Monday, November 16, 2009

“The way to create love for Allāh ta’ala is to worship and obey Him despite not wanting to. The inner self (nafs) needs to be compelled to obey Allāh ta’ala until it becomes a habit.
Once that happens, love for Allāh ta’ala will start being felt and inclination towards the sunan and nawāfil will develop.
Eventually, through the nawāfil (while maintaining absolute observance of the farā’idh and sunan), love for Allāh ta’ala will accelerate.”

“As the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam was born in the month of Rabī‘ul Awwal it is only natural to have an inclination to read, study and speak about the sīrah of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam during this month.
However, a sign of true love is that one constantly thinks of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam with similar devotion and love throughout the rest of the year also.”

The key to acquiring the love of Allāh ta’ala is:
1. Adopting the company of the pious (especially one’s shaykh).
2. Abstaining from sins.
3. Being punctual with one’s ma‘mūlāt (prescribed practices).

“The keys to acquiring the love of Allāh ta’ala are:
1. Adopting the company of the pious (especially one’s shaykh).
2. Abstaining from sins.
3. Being punctual with one’s ma‘mūlāt (prescribed practices).
When someone enters the company of his shaykh, his heart is kindled with the Love of Allāh. However, when he leaves that blessed company, the flame of love is threatened by the gusting winds of the environment around him. If, affected by these winds, a person were to commit a sin, the love of Allāh ta’ala would be extinguished. It is therefore necessary to safeguard yourself from sins.
Another necessity for keeping the flame of love kindled is fuel, which in this case is the remembrance of Allāh ta’ala prescribed by one’s shaykh in the form of ma‘mūlāt. Thus, punctuality in attending the company of one’s shaykh, abstinence from sins and completing one’s ma‘mūlāt are necessary steps towards securing the Love of Allāh.”

“Imagine if you were living in a village, in a run-down hut, and the king of the land announced that he was coming to visit you for a few days! You would be reluctant and embarrassed and inform the king that your residence was wholly unsuitable to his needs and status.
The king in turn would most probably tell you not to worry, that he will make the necessary preparations before his arrival.
Subsequently, workers would be sent to your village, your hut would be knocked down and a magnificent palace erected in its place. Only after many months of work would the king arrive in his full splendour.

“To benefit from a Deeni talk you must have two qualities:
1) Talab: come and listen to the talk with a yearning and desire to gain from it.
2) Ihtiyaaj: consider yourself to be in need of what the speaker is saying.
Just participating and listening to talks, without these two points in mind, does not bring change into people’s lives. The disbelievers of Makkah had the occasion to listen to many speeches of our beloved Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam, but because they did not have the right intentions and attitude, his blessed words had no effect on their lives.”

“We spend so much time and make so much effort to make ourselves presentable for events such as weddings. We visit numerous shops to make sure that we have the right outfit etc. so that we look our best and are adorned in the best manner.
“Yet how much effort do we exert and how much time do we spend purifying and adorning our hearts so that they can be presentable in the Court of Allah?”

“Three things are of key importance:
1) Ma’moolaat (prescribed practices): these are given to one by his Shaykh. A suitable time to carry them out should be set.
2) Mu’aamulaat (dealings and interactions): both with Allah ta’ala and with the creation of Allah ta’ala. One’s intention in these matters should remain clear and correct at all times.
3) Ma’loomaat (knowledge): to perform the above two one needs to know what is right and wrong. The acquisition of authentic knowledge from the ‘ulama and masha’ikh is thus essential.”
