“In order for any action to be accepted by Allāh ta’ala it must fulfil two conditions:

1.The action must be in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam.

2.There must be sincerity in the action, i.e. it must be done for the pleasure of Allāh ta’ala.

“As the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam was born in the month of Rabī‘ul Awwal it is only natural to have an inclination to read, study and speak about the sīrah of the Prophet  sallalahu alayhi wasallam during this month.

However, a sign of true love is that one constantly thinks of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam with similar devotion and love throughout the rest of the year also.”

“The sign of having love for Allāh ta’ala is that you strive to emulate the Prophet sallalhu alayhi wasallam in every aspect of your life. Allāh ta’ala says: ‘Say (O Muhammad sallalhu alayhi wasallam): “If you really love Allāh then follow me, Allāh will love you…”’(3:31)”

Listed below are some useful ways to help create true love for our beloved Prophet sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam:

“1. Recite durūd (salāt-‘alan-Nabī) at least 300 times daily. You may read any formula of durūd as long as it is from an authentic source. The most virtuous is the Durūd Ibrāhīmī, though who are not able to read it 300 times may read a shorter one. An easy method is to recite the short formula ‘sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam’, and to read the longer Durūd Ibrāhīmī after every ten of the short durūd.

2. Increase the recitation of Durūd on Fridays because the reward increases manifold.

3. Try to recite the compilation of forty salāt and salām from authentic sources of hadīth published by the IDA as a booklet entitled ‘Salāt and Salām’ daily. If you are unable to read it daily, then read it at least once a week on Friday.

4. Study the sunnah of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, and aim to bring every sunnah into practice.

5. Read the sīrah of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam.”

What is Sunnah? Thursday, October 22, 2009

“The Sunnah is the way of Rasūlullāh sallahu alayhi wasallam, the life of Rasūlullāh sallahu alayhi wasallam, the method of Rasūlullāh sallahu alayhi wasallam, and the path of Rasūlullāh sallahu alayhi wasallam.

Rasūlullāh  sallahu alayhi wasallam was sent by Allāh S as an example for all who are to come until the day of Qiyāmah. From this we can understand how perfect, complete and comprehensive his life was.

The life of Rasūlullāh sallahu alayhi wasallam is the criterion for haq (truth), and it is used to differentiate between haq and bātil (falsehood): what is in the Sunnah is haq; what is not is bātil.”

“ The masnoon du’as of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam are very valuable, for he never uttered any words pointlessly, nor did he ever say anything worthless. His du’as were inspired by the Creator, who knows what His creation is in need of during every moment of life.

By practicing masnoon du’as, you will be engaged in the remembrance of Allah subhanahu wata‘alaa throughout the day, from waking, doing wudhu, eating, going out…all the way to retiring to bed again at night.

Another way of looking at it is that by practicing masnoon du’as, you will not remain neglectful of Allah subhanahu wata‘alaa for long during the day; as the various occasions demand, you will remember Allah subhanahu wata‘alaa by offering the relevant du’a.”

“From the Hadith of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam, ‘None of you can be a complete believer until he desires for his Muslim brother what he desires for himself,’ we learn that in every situation we should behave with others in such a way that if we were in their place we would desire to be dealt with in the same way.”

“In his later life, Shaykhul Hadith Mawlana Muhammad Zakariya rahmatullahi alayh resided in Madeenah. He also passed away in the blessed city and his grave is in Jannatul Baqee beside the graves of the family members of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

One of the reasons why he was blessed which such a great gift was his adherance to the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Once on the day of Jumu’ah he wore a new upper garment.

“The Islamic greeting of salaam is a du’a for peace, mercy and barakah – in short it is like saying: “May Allah grant you all the goodness of this world and the hereafter.”

We should therefore make it a habit to greet our family members with salaam every time we leave and enter the house.

Think about a man who greets his wife with salaam and receives her replies half a dozen times a day when he leaves and enters his home: will any problem ever enter that house?”
