The meat of the ‘Ulamaa is extremely poisonous. It is so poisonous that when we do gheebah about them (and thus eat their flesh), it can kill and destroy our iman completely

“How sad is it that we greet strangers with salaam and bless them with our du’a, yet we deprive our wives and children of this du’a?

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam has emphasised salaam so much that he has instructed us to do salaam even when we enter an empty house.”

“Sometimes when we have a difference with someone, we go to such extremes that it becomes as though we have the right to do whatever we wish without any fear of Allah.

This is why my respected father (rahmatullahi alayh) used to say that

When we have a dispute with someone we violate his rights so much that on the day of Qiyamah this one person alone will take away all our good deeds as compensation.

“In one hadeeth the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam advised a Companion to control his tongue. If we ponder upon this hadeeth we will see that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam is not stopping us from speaking. Rather he sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam is instructing us to control our tongues.

How does one gauge whether his tongue is under control or not? One can assess this by seeing whether he thinks before he speaks and whether he only says that which is good.

If one does not think before speaking and he speaks those things which are useless then his tongue is not under his control. Rather his tongue has control over him.”

“A person should contemplate on the following verse of the Qur’aan before saying anything:

‘Not a single word is uttered by one but there is a ready watcher near him (to record).’

Thus we should be very careful with regards our speech for there is an angel always waiting to record whatever we utter.”

“The tongue has no limits to the harm it can cause. This is why Ali radiallahu anhu used to say:

The wounds of the spear may heal, but the wounds of the tongue forever remain.

The tongue is neither restricted by space nor time. One can cause harm with his tongue to someone who may sitting hundreds of miles away.

With the tongue one can even cause harm to the deceased and to those who have yet to come into this world.”

“Because we are conscious of sins like adultery, evil glances or missing salaah we may repent from them. But we always overlook the sin of the tongue.

Thus never mind repenting from the sins of the tongue we are not even aware what constitutes such sins.”

Always think before speaking. Let it not be that on the day of Qiyamah the sins of our tongue alone are great enough to outweigh all our good deeds.

“People in the times before would ponder before saying anything. Not only would they think about the permissibility of what they were saying they would also consider whether their speech was of benefit.

Then a time came when people would ponder after having spoken and would experience remorse over the errors they had made in their speech.

And now in our time we continue to speak without even pondering for a moment as to what we are about to say or what we have just said.”

“The renowned companion, Abdullah ibn Masood rahmatullahi alayh used to say that”:

A human is hidden under his tongue. As long as he does not speak another is not able to recognise what he really is.
