Annihilate your self (i.e. your nafs) to such an extent that you do not even realise that you are being humble.

“My respected Shaykh Haji Farooq rahmatullahi alayh used to say:

Du’as can take three forms:

1) You can make du’a yourself.

2) You can request someone to make du’a for you.

3) You can attract spontaneous du’as from someone’s heart (by pleasing them such that they make du’a without any prompting, from the depths of their heart).

Try to acquire the third kind.”

“The great Shaykh Haji Farooq rahmatullahi alayh used to say that there are three types of dua:

1. To make dua yourself:  This is an act of worship and has been recommended in the ahadeeth. Through this a person displays his weakness in front of Allah ta’ala.

2. To request dua from others: asking for dua is a sign that a person is humble for it reflects that a person believes that the piety in others is such that their dua is more likely to be accepted.

3. To earn dua: earning dua from another shows that one is truly helpful and kind hearted for it is only when one helps another with sincerity that such dua, which generates spontaneously from the heart, is acquired. And it is this dua which is the most readily accepted of the three.”

“The respected Shaykh Haji Farooq rahmatullahi alayh would comment that the saying ‘in one ear and out the other’ is not the correct way to deal with useless talk.

This is because one should ensure that nothing useless enters his ears in the first place.”
