“1. If someone who is ill complains about it, then it is a sign of the illness being a punishment from Allah Subhanahu Wa ta’ala.
2. If an ill person accepts that the illness is from Allah ta’ala, and does sabr to please Allah, it is a sign that the illness is a means of wiping out sins and thus is a blessing in disguise.
3. If an ill person expresses gratefulness to Allah for having been given a small illness compared to what he could have been inflicted with, it is a sign that the person has not committed any sins that would make the illness a means of atonement; on the contrary, the illness is a means of elevating his rank in the court of Allah ta’ala.”

“We all face difficulties in this world at some time or other. When we do, we should remember that everything has a solution. Ask from Allah ta’ala, make du’aa, do tawbah and do dhikr; these will allow you access to the solutions to your problems.”

“When a person becomes involved in any difficulty or tribulation he should do the following things.
• Adopt all the permissible means at his disposal and attempt to resolve the issue
• Turn to Allah in repentance. This is because everything in this world happens though the will of Allah ta’ala. Repentance is important as it is possible that Allah ta’ala is utilising this difficulty as a punishment for past sins. By repenting Allah’s help will be acquired and thus the problem will resolve.”

“The respected Shaykh Hakeem Akhtar hafizahullah observes that:
‘If man is capable of making a watch which is waterproof, then most definitely Allah ta’ala is able to make a heart grief- proof.’
Thus in the same way that a person can submerse a waterproof watch in the ocean without damaging it the hearts of the close servants of Allah feel little grief upon experiencing calamity for their hearts are grief proof.”

“Allah ta’ala has great love for us but because we never remember Him and turn to Him, he sends difficulties and calamities.
Such occasions are designed to encourage us to return to Him and shed a few tears in repentance and supplication.”

“Whenever we are involved in any difficulty, we should tell ourselves that the reasons for Sabr are few and the reasons for Shukr are many.
For example if our head hurts then we should remind ourselves that only one part of the body is in pain but the rest of the body is well and fine.
Thus there is only one reason to be patient and many reasons for which to be thankful.”

“The great Shaykh, Ashraf Ali Thanvi rahmatullahi alayh narrates that once he was sitting in the company of Shaykh, Haji Imdadullah rahamatullahi alayh. Shaykh Imdadullah was discussing the benefits of illness at the time.
A man came into the gathering shortly after the conversation had ended and asked Shaykh Imadadullah to make dua for him. The man asked that he be granted cure from his illness.
Upon seeing this Shaykh Ashraf Ali, thought to himself that only a few minutes ago Haji saheb was explaining how illnesses are a gift from Allah. Now someone is requesting him to make dua for the removal of this gift.
