“In order to assess whether the love of wealth has entered one’s heart or not one should gauge his reaction when permissible and impermissible factors (with regards to wealth) collide.
If one always gives preference to the permissible factors over the impermissible factors then the world has not entered his heart. Otherwise, it has.”

“A wealthy person can utilise his wealth to perform many good actions as well as safeguard himself from many things. Thus wealth has many benefits, some of which are:
1. One can spend in the path of Allah ta’ala through different avenues.
2. A wealthy person is (generally) safeguarded from kufr (for poverty may make a person so desperate that he may perform such actions which will take him out of the fold of Islam)
3. One is protected from degradation and humiliation, as he will not ask others for assistance and help.”

“In the Qur’aan wealth has been described as a blessing and as ‘khayr’ (goodness). On the other hand, the love of wealth has been discouraged.
If a person possesses wealth but the love of wealth does not cause him to deviate (into sin and transgression), then in this situation wealth is a blessing.
On the contrary if the love of wealth enters and overwhelms a person’s heart, leading him to many vices, then this wealth is accursed.
And it is because of this that the love of wealth has been discouraged in the Qur’aan and ahadeeth.”

“Shaykh Saadi rahmatullahi alayh explains the relationship of man with this world by using the example of a ship. A ship must utilise the water in the ocean to reach its destination.
As long as the water of the ocean stays on the outside, the ship will continue smoothly on its journey. However if the water begins to enter the ship then the ship will ultimately sink and be destroyed (more…)

“The great Companion Umar radiallahu anhu used to say that;”
We were a wretched and disgraced people. Allah ta’ala then granted us honour through Islam.
Thus our honour and success lies in only one way. And that way is Islam.

“Allah ta’ala has described the day of Qiyamah as the day of loss. This is because, it is on that day that we will truly come to realise the loss we incurred by wasting the great opportunities we had to perform good actions.
And it is on that day that we will see how we ruined and destroyed our hereafter by performing acts of sin whilst in this world.”

“It is mentioned in a hadeeth that;
The son of Adam says, my wealth, my wealth. Yet in reality nothing is his except what he wears, consumes or sends forth to the hereafter by means of charity.
Other than this everything else belongs not to him but to his inheritors.”

“There is no doubt that the possession of wealth and having a large supportive family are means of great help. However wealth and family can only aid one as long as he is alive.
Their beneficial effects are only limited to this world and they last for a limited period.
This is why good deeds are a greater source of aid; for not only do they benefit one in both this world and the hereafter the help derived from good deeds last forever.”

“It is mentioned in a hadeeth that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam said:
‘O Allah! There is no life except the life of the hereafter.’
What this means is that life in reality is the life of the hereafter.
This is because the pains and gains of this world will one day come to an end, whilst the pains and gains of the hereafter will never come to an end.
Hence the life hereafter is regarded as the true life.”
