Acquiring the Love of Allah ta’ala Thursday, October 15, 2009

“The keys to acquiring the love of Allāh ta’ala are:
1. Adopting the company of the pious (especially one’s shaykh).
2. Abstaining from sins.
3. Being punctual with one’s ma‘mūlāt (prescribed practices).
When someone enters the company of his shaykh, his heart is kindled with the Love of Allāh. However, when he leaves that blessed company, the flame of love is threatened by the gusting winds of the environment around him. If, affected by these winds, a person were to commit a sin, the love of Allāh ta’ala would be extinguished. It is therefore necessary to safeguard yourself from sins.
Another necessity for keeping the flame of love kindled is fuel, which in this case is the remembrance of Allāh ta’ala prescribed by one’s shaykh in the form of ma‘mūlāt. Thus, punctuality in attending the company of one’s shaykh, abstinence from sins and completing one’s ma‘mūlāt are necessary steps towards securing the Love of Allāh.”

Shaykh once gave the following pieces of advice which if followed will insha’allah help each person move closer to Allah ta’ala:
“1) Abstinence from Haraam
There should be no haraam elements in anything that one consumes or owns. Neither should one’s possessions or foodstuffs be made from haraam constituents nor should they have been purchased by haraam money or through haraam channels

In explaining how important it is for one to be punctual on one’s prescribed practices, our respected Shaykh cited the incident of Hadhrat Ali and Fatimaؓ who were advised by Rasoolulah sallahu alayhi wasallam to recite [tasbeeh fatimi] Subhanallah 33 times, Alhamdulilah 33 times and Allahuakbar 34 times every night before retiring to bed.

“Shaykh Abrar-ul-Haq rahmatullaahi alayh states that meeting with one’s Shaykh serves to rekindle the fire of the love of Allah ta’ala within one’s heart.
Prescribed practices are the fuel that keeps the fire burning.”

1) Punctuality with one’s ma’moolaat
2) Staying away from sins.”

“In order to be regular with tilawah we need to fix a time for it daily, just like we have fixed times for other things, e.g. breakfast. I remember as a child back in India, how the entire household would complete their tilawah before breakfast, i.e. we had a fixed time for tilawah.
In those days it was not unusual for people to do tilawah even before Fajr. I remember walking to the masjid for Fajr Salah and hearing the sound of tilawah coming from the houses we passed.

“It is necessary that a’mal be performed punctually and with regularity. The following example helps clarify this point:”
One person takes a long and elaborate bath, applying various shampoos and soaps. When he finishes, he does not bath again for a whole month. Another person only has a quick shower, but he does so every day.
It is obvious that the cleanliness of the first person will start deteriorating after a few days, whereas the second person will remain clean all the time.
Similarly, if a person recites the Qur’an abundantly for a day or two then stops, he will earn thawab and spiritual renewal for that period and no more. He will not make spiritual progress in the long term.
On the other hand if a person reads a lesser amount, but is punctual and recites daily, his reward will be constant and his spiritual condition will improve daily.”

On Thursday nights our respected Shaykh usually advises those present to do the following actions in order to gain maximum benefit from the blessed day of Friday.
Salaat and Salaam
“As soon as one completes the Maghrib Salaah on Thursday night he should begin to increase the recitation of Salaat and Salaam upon the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam.
On Friday one should increase the quantity of Salaat and Salaam read. An apt number would be to aim to recite Durood 300 times daily, and increase it to 1000 times on Friday.

“A person can only become punctual upon observing his daily practices (mamoolaat) if he exerts a determined effort. With effort even difficult things become easy.
Take the example of a house wife. She has so many things to do during the day. She cooks, she clean, and she takes care of the children.
Despite the pressure of the various tasks she never misses out what she needs to do. Why is this?
