“A normal diastolic blood pressure reading is taken to be in the 80s. When the diastolic pressure reaches 100 then this is taken to be the danger zone. However as soon as a person’s diastolic readings reach the nineties, the physican will immediately take preventative action in order to keep the patient out of the danger zone and thereby out of harm’s way.

This should be our attitude towards our Deen. We should not only worry about making sure whether our actions are in the danger zone (i.e. sins). We should monitor how close we are coming to sin and how far we are wandering off from the Sirat-al-Mustaqim. If we find that we are slowly drifting towards danger we should take immediate action to rectify our situation.”

“It is necessary that a’mal be performed punctually and with regularity. The following example helps clarify this point:”

One person takes a long and elaborate bath, applying various shampoos and soaps. When he finishes, he does not bath again for a whole month. Another person only has a quick shower, but he does so every day.

It is obvious that the cleanliness of the first person will start deteriorating after a few days, whereas the second person will remain clean all the time.

Similarly, if a person recites the Qur’an abundantly for a day or two then stops, he will earn thawab and spiritual renewal for that period and no more. He will not make spiritual progress in the long term.

On the other hand if a person reads a lesser amount, but is punctual and recites daily, his reward will be constant and his spiritual condition will improve daily.”

Understanding Illness Sunday, July 26, 2009

“1. If someone who is ill complains about it, then it is a sign of the illness being a punishment from Allah Subhanahu Wa ta’ala.

2. If an ill person accepts that the illness is from Allah ta’ala, and does sabr to please Allah, it is a sign that the illness is a means of wiping out sins and thus is a blessing in disguise.

3. If an ill person expresses gratefulness to Allah for having been given a small illness compared to what he could have been inflicted with, it is a sign that the person has not committed any sins that would make the illness a means of atonement; on the contrary, the illness is a means of elevating his rank in the court of Allah ta’ala.”

“Sometimes the thought of repenting from sin may cross the mind of a sinful person, but he will think, “I am a sinner. How will Allah forgive me?” Remember, this is a trick of Shaytaan.

The thought of repentance is a guest sent from Allah, and therefore should be welcomed and entertained. The way to do this is to put this thought into practice by repenting to Allah.

Remember it is Allah ta’ala who sent this thought. Therefore one should take it to mean that He wants one to repent.”

“We all face difficulties in this world at some time or other. When we do, we should remember that everything has a solution. Ask from Allah ta’ala, make du’aa, do tawbah and do dhikr; these will allow you access to the solutions to your problems.”

Ilm is the door to amal (practice), amal is the door to the pleasure of Allah ta’ala, and the pleasure of Allah ta’ala is the door to success in this world and the hereafter.

“Everyone should remember death for 15 minutes at least once every week. The easiest method is to set a time for yourself, e.g. every Thursday after dhikr. Death is the destroyer of desires, so keep on remembering it.  Ask yourself:

If I were to die right now, would I be able to show my face to Allah?

In which form would Munkar and Nakeer come to me?

Would I be given a place in the shade of Allah’s throne on the Day of Judgement or not?’

“It is mentioned in a hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurayrah radhiyallaahu anhu that sadaqah, spending in the path of Allah ta’ala, does not cause money to decrease. This may seem paradoxical, for if you spend, it is obvious that your money will decrease.

What the hadeeth means is that although when we spend in the path of Allah we see an immediate decrease in wealth, Allah ta’ala promises that He will increase our wealth in the long term as a result of our spending.”

” The great tabi’ee Ibn Seereen rahmatullahi alayh, has said that:

This knowledge is deen so be careful who you take your deen from.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we know whose material we are reading and listening to. Unfortunately, today we go on the web and read and listen to whatever we come across.

But we should not rely on such material until we are sure of its authenticity.”
