“We never realise how old we have become. We need to realise that we are ageing and we need to prepare for the hereafter.

The various stages of the hereafter are to come, and Allah has created us for the hereafter.”

1) Stay away from company which will entice you to commit sin

2) Stay away from environments which encourage sin (see also Help During Mischief)

“We seldom visit the graveyard, but when we do happen to find ourselves attending a funeral, we have very little understanding of the significance of the janazah and burial.

The time of burial is a very important time for the deceased. He/she is about to enter a whole new world. It is a time when we need to assist the deceased as much as we can and not spend the time in futile or disrespectful activities.

“A murid must not feel shy to admit his spiritual problems to his/her shaykh. A shaykh is a spiritual doctor, so informing him about your spiritual illnesses, is just like telling a medical doctor that you have cancer or aids. (it does not produce the slightest reaction on the face of the medical doctor).

Telling your shaykh about a spiritual illness you are suffering from only increases the empathy he has for you, and more importantly, increases his du’aas for you, as your act of consulting him reveals to the shaykh the concern you have for bettering your inner state.”

“The main thing is to abstain from the disobedience of Allah. The nawaahi (Shar’i prohibitions) are of course concerned with this, but even the awaamir (Shar’i commands) are there to enable people to refrain from sins.

Take the example of salaah. Even though the command to establish salaah is a command to ‘do’ something, one of its main purposes is to enable people to avoid sins.

Allah says about it: ‘Verily, salaah prevents against illicit acts and sins.’ So we should try our utmost to refrain from disobeying Allah.

“It is Sunnah to search for cures and solutions for physical illnesses. Therefore, we should take care of our bodies, which are a trust from Allah ta’ala.

Nevertheless, we should have more concern for our spiritual health than the physical aspects of our lives.

If we suffer from anxiety, pain or difficulties in this world, one day all our sufferings will come to an end.

“It is not sufficient to simply ensure the material one is studying is correct, it is also important that the author of the work is not a faasiq.

Anything written by a faasiq, though it may be correct, will have some negative effects on the reader, as whilst reading the material one is in the company of the author.”

“Our hearts should be clean; we should not turn our faces away from each other due to hatred, jealousy, pride and arrogance, etc.

We should remain in this world as brothers/sisters because Imaan has gathered us and made us into one family.

So why should we be backbite, slander, swear, accuse, and abuse?
