Once our Shaykh commented:
“Whatever is inside will come out at the time of death. If Allah is in the heart, it will show at the time of death, and if love of the world is in the heart then that is what will preoccupy us.
Take the example of a parrot; you can teach it to say the word ‘Allah’ and it may say it all day long, but when a cat takes a pounce at it, it will show its true colours, i.e. it will resort to its natural voice and squawk in alarm.
It will not say the word ‘Allah’, as it was merely on its tongue, not in its heart.
So we have to strive to bring Allah into our hearts.”

“People tend to only start making du’a for a good spouse once they decide it is time for them to get married.
Instead, unmarried people should be constantly making du’a for a good partner.”

“When walking on the street, the gaze should be kept lowered. Only when it is necessary should one raise the gaze. This command applies equally to men and women.
Unfortunately, what we tend do is quite the opposite: we walk with our gazes wondering here and there, with this in mind that we will lower our gaze when necessary.
We should remember at all times that the sinful gaze is a great obstruction to spiritual progress.
When a person protects his gaze for the pleasure of Allah ta’ala then he will taste the sweetness of imaan in his heart in this very world.”

During book reading on Sunday evening at Masjid Al-Faruq, the following hadeeth qudsi was disucssed:
“I am with him (My servant) when he remembers me…”
Shaykhul Hadeeth Mawlana Muhammad Zakariyya rahimahullah, commentating on the hadeeth, explains that Allah ta’ala is with all people, but what is meant here is that Allah’s special attention is focused on that person.
Our respected Shaykh hafizahullah explained this to us with a beautiful example which made the meaning of the hadeeth clear for us:

“It is very difficult to remove your gaze once it has already settled on a ghayr mahram.
If your gaze is protected, your heart remains pure, but if you do not protect your gaze, the heart becomes impure and filthy.
Once a person finds a ghayr mahram attractive, slowly and with time, they will stop finding their marital partner attractive, and love for them will begin to decrease, giving rise to arguments and disunity within the marriage.

One of the arguments of the disbelievers of Makkah was that prophethood should have been conferred to one of the wealthy individuals from the towns of Makkah or Taif.
In reply, Allah ta’ala says that when even the distribution of sustenance has not been left up to human beings, how will He place in their hands the authority of choosing a Prophet?

“Allah ta’aala is completely aware of everything in this world. Hence, Allah knows how much wealth is circulating in the hands of man, how much is being wasted and how many poor people there are in the world.
Allah ta’aala has made the system of zakaah to great precision; He has given wealth to the rich in such measure that if all the zakah due on it were collected, it would be sufficient to eradicate all poverty.”

“In this day and age, a driving test is more important to us than our fellow Muslims who are suffering around the world!
When we have a driving test, we stand on the prayer mat and pray two raka’at salaat-ul-haajat, but we cannot stand on the prayer mat and pray for our Muslim brothers and sisters in need.”
