“From the current economic crisis one lesson that can be learnt is how great the Independence and Might of Allah ta’ala is.

For it is amazing that such strong and stable economies were shaken so quickly in such an enormous way.

And it is indeed amazing that despite pledges of billions of pounds and the collusion of numerous experts the short term solution to this crisis remains elusive.”

“A great lesson can be learnt from the current presidential campaign. Two candidates are working day and night to attain a single goal.

Both are undertaking strenuous schedules, both are sacrificing their ease and both are trying their utmost to get elected.

The end result of this great effort is that one person will become the President for a limited period of four years. And it is not that this period of leadership will be all rosy.

“A lady should ponder upon the great service she renders throughout the day through looking after the home and her family.

If such service is not driven by the intention of pleasing Allah ta’ala then it brings no reward as it is being performed only as a matter of routine.

This concept holds particular importance with regards the newly wed.

Thus a new daughter in law should not think to herself that I am doing this service as a servant.

Rather she should intend that I am undertaking these chores to please Allah through the means of pleasing my family.”

“When anyone would come asking Shaykh Ashraf Ali Thanwi rahmatullahi alayh for forgiveness due to having backbitten him, the respected Shaykh would ask the requester to inform him of what they had said.

The reason for the respected Shaykh’s actions can be understood from the proverb that there is no smoke without fire.

Thus the respected Shaykh would ask in order to reflect and ascertain whether there was any truth in the negative things being said about him so that he may correct any weaknesses which may come to the fore.”

One should never (feel or) say that Allah ta’ala does not accept to my supplications.

For Allah ta’ala himself says in the Qur’aan that he accepts the supplications of His Servants.

A mother in law should remember that if she is oppressive towards her daughter in law, then her own daughter will be destined to marry into such a household wherein she will be oppressed.

“The nafs is like a lazy child. For it is always looking for excuses to get out of doing work.

Therefore one must be very strict with the nafs and ensure that one makes the nafs observe all that is required of it.”

“In copying common trends many people go off on honeymoons immediately after getting married. However it is commonly observed that many problems between the couple start on this very journey.

And it is these very problems that trouble the couple for the rest of their lives.

How sad it is that the couple spend their blessed first night together in places and in rooms where all manner of sins tend to be committed.

And it is indeed sad that the newlywed couple spend the initial days of their marriage in places where immorality and sin is common.

Thus the couple should endeavour to spend these valuable first days and nights residing in a place and in a room which is regularly enlightened by worship and the remembrance of Allah.”

“One needs to realise that when parents hope that their son and daughter in law will live with them, this hope is not driven by the fact that they wish to make their new daughter their servant.

All parents wish to see their children happy and this is what drives their thinking. Hence there are many reasons why parents may want the newlywed couple to stay with them.

For example as the newlywed couple tend to be young and inexperienced parents may feel that by staying together they can utilise their experience to help guide the new couple (until their relationship matures and develops fully.)”

“One night the mother of the great Shaykh Ba Yazid Bustami rahmatullahi alayh requested her son to bring some water for her.

Shaykh Ba Yazid immediately went to fulfil his mother’s request but upon his return he noticed that his mother had fallen asleep.

Rather than turning away the great Shaykh stood at his mother’s side, cup in all hand, waiting for his mother to awake.

The biographers of Shaykh Ba Yazid have written that it this great respect and reverence for his mother that helped the Shaykh achieve the lofty spiritual status for which he is now renowned.”
