“Our deen does not teach us to isolate ourselves from those who have not yet been blessed with Iman. Islam teaches us to mix with those who are not Muslims.

This is what happened as a result of the treaty of Hudaybiyah. Due to the truce, Muslims and non Muslims were able to mix with greater ease than ever before.

As a result many more people were able to observe first hand the character and behaviour of the Companions and thus large numbers of people accepted Islam.

The Companions despite mixing with the rest of the people of Arabia stuck fast to the principles of Islam and this is why they were able to exert such a massive influence.

Today, we also try to mix with people of different or no faith but our influence is minimal.

This is because instead of sticking to the true principles of our faith we adopt and portray a distorted image.

And this is the reason why no benefit is seen.”
