“It is related about some Muhaditheen that after the death of their teacher they would never sleep on a bed. The rationale behind this was that they felt it was disrespectful that they should sleep above the ground under which their teacher was buried. Thus they would sleep on the floor without any bedding.
Another muhadith from amongst our pious predecessors was delivering a lesson. During the lesson the Muhaddith stood up and sat down on numerous occasions. Upon the completion of the lesson the students asked if everything was alright and whether their teacher was in any difficulty.
The Muhadith explained that whilst the lesson was being imparted a group of children had been playing nearby. Amongst the group was the son of one of the Muhadith’s teachers. Thus whenever during the course of his play the young boy would come into the Muhadith’s sight the Muhadith would stand up out of respect.
Imagine if this was the regard and respect shown to the teacher’s son we can only imagine what respect must have shown to the teacher himself.”
