Shaykh once quoted a verse from the Qur’aan (Surah Al-Alaa – 87:14) : ‘qad aflahaa mun tazuka’ – ‘Success is surely achieved by the one who purifies themselves’, Shaykh then explained the verse to be about the success and failure of cleansing the heart and nafs. Shaykh then added “Allah Subhaanahu Wata’aala is emphasising the importance purifying the heart of all the bad qualities (raazail) and replace them with good qualities (Husne Aqlaaq).
When the heart becomes cleansed then taqwa will enter the heart. Therefore this heart will not become corrupted by sin or evil, and this heart wont let the mind even think about planning to sin. In reality it is Allah Subhaanahu wata’aala who is the ‘muzaqqee’ (the cleanser of hearts).
Shaykh left us with a masnoon du’a which is available in both great prayer books; ‘ Al Hizbul Azaam & Munaajat E Maqbool:
Rabbi aatee Nafsi Taqwahah, wazakkiya anta kayru man zakaahah, anta waliyuaa wa mawlahah – “O Allah grant me thy fear and purify my soul as thou art the best purifier and thou art patron and master of my soul.”
